Questions we get asked

How much do driveway gates cost in Ireland?

Most driveway gates cost €1,500–€6,500 fitted in Ireland. Manual swing gates are €1,500–€2,500, electric swing gates €2,500–€3,500 and an electric sliding gate €3,000–€5,000. Made-to-order and premium gates run €6,000–€12,000.

How long does it take?

Fitting is quick once the piers are sound. The wait is the gate: made-to-measure gates are built to your opening first, and new piers or a track need time for the concrete to set. The installer gives you both dates when they price it.

Is there a grant for gates?

No. There's no grant for driveway gates in Ireland. SEAI grants cover energy upgrades, not gates.

Do I need planning permission for gates?

Usually not for the gate itself. Gates and gateways up to 2 metres high are exempted development under Class 5 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001, subject to the site and its planning history. A new or wider entrance onto a public road needs planning permission.
